From October 2016 to February 2018 35 students learned basics in entrepreneurship, English and web development at Roia’s ICT Academy in Eastern Ghouta, Maharat.
This report gives a self-critical look at what went well and what lessons we learnt from the academy – especially its forced closure due to escalating violence in the region at the beginning of 2018.
The report includes course content, statistics on students’ performance and testimonials as well as short descriptions of student projects: The program was designed to culminate in start-up entrepreneurship projects, where students tried to solve a particular challenge within their community, with financial support from the project. Although submissions were outstanding, none of them could be carried out due to the closure of the academy in February 2018. The report includes these projects to show what impact could have been achieved by the students themselves in their communities.
One of our former students at Maharat works at our current ICT Academy in Atarib.
