Dafne van Baarle | Chairwoman
Dafne van Baarle is a Dutch entrepreneur who holds a degree in Arabic Language and Culture from Leiden University. She has 25+ years of experience in and with the Arab world, from Morocco to the Gulf, from Syria to Egypt. She is a lecturer, trainer and moderator on issues related to region, including entrepreneurship, women, youth and culture. In 2014, Dafne was a speaker during the Gulf Research Meeting at Cambridge University.
Esra’a Al Shafei | Secretary
Esra'a Al Shafei is a Bahraini human rights activist and founder of Majal.org, a network of online platforms that amplify under-reported and marginalized voices. Esra’a currently serves on the Global Future Council on Human Rights and Technology at the World Economic Forum and is a Director’s Fellow at the MIT Media Lab. Previously, she was a Senior TED Fellow, Echoing Green Fellow, and Shuttleworth Foundation Fellow. In 2017, she was elected to the Board of Trustees at the Wikimedia Foundation.
Khaled Shaaban | Treasurer
Khaled Shaaban is a Syrian IT Networking Specialist and civil society activist. Khaled is a certified IT Professional from Microsoft, Network Associate from Cisco, and IT Professional from CompTIA. Khaled has founded Roia in 2012 in the besieged area of Syria as a response for the humanitarian crisis caused by the Syrian civil war that started in 2011.
